Destination Lisbon

Lisbon is so much fun. I have been a few times now, both on trips with my wonderful friends. There is lots of culture and sites to see. It feels like a smaller, more casual version of Barcelona. This would be a great place to take a family as well. There is lots to do for a variety of age groups. I also felt that the pricing in Lisbon was pretty reasonable compared to other European locations I have visited.

Where to Stay?

Hotel Valverde– The location is great on a very upscale street in the city. It is on Avenue De Liberdade which is a main area that you can walk outside to shops and restaurants very easily. There are lots of other hotel options in a variety of price ranges to fit your needs.

Brown Central Hotel – Located in the a great location that is easy to walk to trendy shops and restaurants in the Baixa neighborhood.

Internacional Design Hotel – Located in the Baixa neighborhood, this hotel is a boutique hotel with a modern flair.

What to do?

Cooking class with market tour – Such a fun way to have a hands on experience. This is great for a family or groups that are interested in more interaction together.

Walking tour of the city – I found this to be a nice way to learn your way around the city quickly. Our guide was very knowledgeable as well as flexible with what we spent time on. We did this at the beginning of our trip. This helped us to know what areas of the city we were most interested in going back to explore further.

Day trip to Sintra – Visiting the Palacio da Pena is the main attraction of this small city. It is best to go in the morning as crowds build up as it gets later in the day. After it is nice to get lunch and maybe do a Port tasting in the town. A walk through the narrow streets to visit the local vendors is nice as well. One day in this town in plenty of time.

Day trip to Cascais – This takes almost an hour to get to from Lisbon and is a nice quaint beach town. There are lots of restaurants and shops to wander through and take in the culture. There are musicians playing in the streets and lots of energy with people enjoying the views.

Go to a local show – If you are interested in watching some local musical entertainment then going to oFaia is a unique place to experience this. Though a bit touristy it is a fun place to see some talented musicians.

Where to eat?

JNcQUOI Avenida – Fun, trendy place to eat and see. This is a great place to go for a nice afternoon lunch or dinner. Checkout the fashionable decoration and clothing located inside this building as well.

Belcanto – Fabulous creative food. It has 2 Michelin stars and continues to be on the best 50 restaurant list. The dishes that come to the table are very artistic and delightfully surprising. Dress is somewhat fancy/ stylish. Price point is high, however, if this is your thing, it is worth a visit!

Cantinho Do Avillez in Chiado – Fresh, creative local food with a twist.

100 Manieras– Great food with a fun fresh vibe.

Mini Bar – Great place for pre or post drinks and small bites. Very cool artwork and a good place for DJ sounds.

Eleven – Great local food in a charming environment.

Time Out Market– This food hall is great for casual but great eats. Grab something quick or spend the whole afternoon tasting and sipping.

Where to shop?

Avenida da Liberdade – This street has a long line of designer and boutique shops. It is a fun place to go for a stroll along the tree lined streets.

Rue Garrett – This is the main area of the Chiado district in Lisbon. It is considered part of the old city. It has some nice mix of shops in a location that gives you a feel of the local flair.
